The Battle with Vashishtha and Renunciation
(*Ramayana* Balakanda 51-56): As King Kaushika, he visited Vashishtha's ashram and coveted Nandini. His vast army was destroyed by the cow's divine warriors. This humiliation showed him that spiritual power surpasses military might.
Revealer of the Gayatri Mantra
Vishwamitra is credited with revealing the **Gayatri Mantra** (Rigveda 3.62.10) — the most sacred mantra in Hinduism: "Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah / Tat Savitur Varenyam / Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi / Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat." This mantra is chanted daily by millions and is the essence of Vedic prayer.
