📜Origin Story
Dirghatamas Auchathya, son of Utathya and Mamata, of the Angirasa line, was born blind ("long darkness"). He is the seer of Rigveda hymns 1.140-164, including the great riddle hymn 1.164 (Asya Vamasya), which contains the verse "ekam sad vipra bahudha vadanti" (truth is one, the wise call it by many names).

through a curse of Brihaspati, his uncle, according to the Mahabharata.
Set adrift on the Ganga
in his old age he was cast onto the river on a raft and reached the kingdom of King Bali, where the Mahabharata says he fathered Anga, Vanga, Kalinga, Pundra and Suhma, the eponyms of the eastern kingdoms.

RV 1.164, one of the deepest and most quoted hymns of the Rigveda.
