About the Atharvaveda

The Atharvaveda is the fourth and youngest of the Vedas, named after the Rishi Atharvan. Unlike the other three Vedas which are primarily focused on the Vedic sacrifice, the Atharvaveda contains hymns for healing, protection against diseases and evil spirits, love spells, and philosophical speculations about the nature of the universe. The Angirasa lineage is especially prominent in the Atharvaveda tradition. The text is also a significant source for early Indian astronomy, medicine (Ayurveda), and cosmology. The Brahmin priest associated with the Atharvaveda is the Brahma, who oversees the entire ritual.
