📜Origin Story

Tittiri is the sage after whom the Taittiriya branch of the Krishna Yajurveda is named. The story in the Vishnu Purana: when Yajnavalkya gave back the Yajurveda he had learned, his fellow pupils took the form of partridges (tittiri) and picked up the verses, which is why that branch is called Taittiriya. Another tradition names Tittiri as a pupil of Vaishampayana.
